"Preface This personal memoir was written 30 years ago - 16 years after the end of World War 2. It started out merely as a means of organizing the events in a chronological order (hence the diary format) and ended as paper therapy. It allowed me to tie the loose end together. in 1961, Milton Westgate, George Johnstone and I were reminiscing about people and events involving Company 1. The three of us could agree on the events but not on the dates. We had a history of the 28thInfantry Division and a brief history of Company 1 - both written in broad strokes without the details to settle our disagreements. We needed something that would sort out the dates and deal with details of war. ......" |
